Is the Regine of The ‘Queen Of Beaches’ in question?
During the 1990’s, renowned Calangute Beach North Goa was a tranquil haven. A pristine stretch of sandy shore lined with quaint beach shacks.
Once a haven for hippies and backpackers seeking both enlightenment and an escape from the ordinary, North Goa’s Calangute Beach has become a magnet for tourists from all over the world.
However, the ‘Queen of Beaches,’ as it’s often called, has undergone a dramatic transformation over the past five years; with this seven-kilometre stretch, becomming a victim of its popularity, with both foreign and Indian Tourists.
Goa is as famous in India as say Brighton in the UK and is immensely popular. Its popularity has led to the development of numerous hotels, resorts, and restaurants, transforming the once-quiet beach into a bustling commercial hub. The pristine sands are now often crowded with sunbathers, and vendors, leaving little room for solitude and tranquillity. This situation becomes more acute at the weekends.
So Why Would I Want to Go to Calangute Beach?
While Calangute Beach may no longer be the tranquil paradise it once was, it still offers a unique and unforgettable experience. However, if you are looking for the ‘true’ Calangute Beach Shack experience, you will have to walk a little way south away from the main Calangute Beach, and to a much quieter stretch between the beaches of Candolim and Calangute.
Here you will find Cafe Roma Beach Shack. Retaining our traditional Goan roots and owner we are a humble, quiet beach front restaurant in the vein of the traditional Goa beach shack of years ago.
We are a busy but friendly Beach Front Cafe. A place to sit with friends; take an espresso, tea or cold drink, or maybe something from our ‘Extensive Unique Menu’, we are sure you won’t be disappointed.
Of course, if you prefer the crowded beach, loud music, and flashing neon lights of the main Calangute Beach North Goa, we won’t be offended. But if you want a more authentic experience, come and look us up; join our friends who return year after year to enjoy the sound of the waves, their toes in the sand, and some of the best food on Calangute Beach.
